What is industrial Teflon?
Polytetrafluoroethylene, or more commonly known as Teflon, which is also called PTFE for short, is a synthetic fluoropolymer that is made by the Teflon formula and has many uses. This substance, which belongs to Chemours company; It is also known by the brand name Syncolon, which belongs to Synco Chemical Corporation. A special type of this material is called Virgin Teflon.
This means that teflon is original and no recycled materials have been used in its production, because recycled materials are sometimes used for the production of teflon and for a very low percentage, so as not to cause serious damage to nature. Virgin Teflon is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and is widely used in the pharmaceutical or food industries.
History of PTFE; Discovery of Teflon due to an incident!! Unlike other polymers, the discovery of PTFE or industrial teflon was a simple incident. The story of the invention or discovery of Teflon was in this way that in 1938 in the state of New Jersey, a laboratory started working. One of the chemists of this laboratory was Roy J. Plunkett, who was researching the cooling gases of the refrigerator. On one of the working days, a problem occurs that all the chemists have to leave their workplaces. When Roy Plunkett and some of his colleagues return to the laboratory the next day and go to the chamber and open it, they realize that something has happened. They thought the chamber would be filled with gas, but found that the gas had spontaneously turned into a white, powdery polymeric substance. This was the beginning of the idea that eventually led to the manufacture and supply of Teflon. The best description of the discovery and invention of Teflon is given by its inventor. Plunkett says about this: "On the morning of April 6, 1938, my assistant Jack had selected one of the TFE cylinders that we had used the previous day and had it ready to work. But when he opens the hatch, nothing happens. He called me after this and asked if we had used all the TFE gas yesterday and I told him that there was no gas left in the cylinder. Then I went to the laboratory and we checked the two cylinders and found a white powder instead of gas. Plunkett then experimented on this polymer and discovered its features one by one, which led to the production of polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE on a large scale.
